April 1, 2022 Schwaz | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: A pitched ball hits the strike mat DaveDowell thanks, much appreciated. I just found the same Rule on our Message Board from Nov 21. Jack |
April 1, 2022 Schwaz | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: A pitched ball hits the strike mat Our recreation league umpires itself so, we have very few experienced umpires. We utilize both a strike mat and a pitching screen, additional safety equipment is optional. A pitched ball hits the strike mat and then bounces a few feet up in the air, batter swings and makes contact with the ball. The ball dribbles towards the infield, defensive team throws ball to first and believes he is out. What is the correct call? Since the ball hits the strike mat it is a strike, but I believe it should be a dead ball and NO further play can be made. If it went over the outfield fence would it be a homerun? If the pitched ball first hits the ground (in front of the strike mat), then bounces and batter swings and makes contact, is it live? I don't have a current copy of the USA Umpires Manual, but I'm a former SSUSA & ASA umpire and want to make sure of the correct call going forward. Thanks, Jack |
Feb. 27, 2021 Schwaz | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: COVID 19 PROTOCOLS As I mentioned in my original text, we hope to be RESTARTING our local Senior Softball league and would be developing local protocols. Thank You SSUSA Staff, thats what I was looking for...what were your current pandemic protocols. Good luck to everyone out their, unless you happen to live in California...we are at the mercy of the political elites. Semper Fi!! |
Feb. 27, 2021 Schwaz | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: COVID 19 PROTOCOLS SSUSA Staff - My original question was to "what are the most recent or updated SSUSA Pandemic Protocols"?. I've got my opinion based on REAL science what is working or not working (I think for myself), but I'm just looking at what other organizations are implementing so, we can some what mirror their guidelines. California is a strange place to live and try to play adult sports, but we will leave that to another discussion. :) Thanks for everyone's assistance. Regards, Jack |
Feb. 26, 2021 Schwaz | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: COVID 19 PROTOCOLS Ladies & Gentlemen, We hope to be restarting our local Senior Softball league in Southern California and will be developing local pandemic protocols. What are the most recent or updated SSUSA Pandemic Protocols? I've reviewed the Sep 11th Newsletter and the Apr 29th 2020, Vol 6, Edition 6 guidelines and was wondering if their were any additional guidelines or lessons learned from tournaments since these guidelines were developed. Respectfully, Jack Schwarzel |
