Discussion: How best to position11 defensive players?

This just in...Oklahoma Sooners football team is so good, that next year they have to give 7 pts, they can only run the ball12 times and the other team gets an extra free safety each game. It's been rumored that now they are lobbying to get a participation trophy. What will they want in 5 years if they can't pull off a win then?

Want to give props and a shout out of RESPECT to the Washington Legends 50 "Major" team for playing the game the way it was intended to be played this past weekend...With NO extra player & NO extra runs!

It was nice hitting and looking out on the field where it looked like a softball team of 10 rather than a Cricket team of 11...

You have a good squad and I wish you the best in Vegas!

Hope your shortstop wasn't seriously injured and able to play in a few weeks.

Like I thought stick, I wouldn't think the OKI boys would take a player...but I wouldn't have thought these guys would have either. They are also talented Major + players and good guys. In the heat of the moment, I kinda let a couple know how I felt. Maybe I shouldn't have, but for cryin out loud...we are not playing co-ed.

I must say, I guess if I was playing for my house or the life of a loved one...I would take every legal, "new rules advantage". But, since that will never happen thankfully...I will quit the game if I get to the point where I need players or runs. Especially for a T-shirt.

I hear talk about we all get nicer in our older age...hopefully true...I think that's true...it should be true...but does PRIDE have to go with it? How could I go home and tell people, "We won the tourney" & "we beat a PLUS team" BUT I don't tell them, "but we had an extra guy on defense". I would be embarrassed if they asked why did they have an extra guy? Well their better than us. Maybe so...but ain't going to say it or believe it!

The last several years, softball looks LESS like softball of old. First, home runs LIMITED. Next, runs LIMITED. Next, let's GIVE runs. Oh, let's GIVE players. Well, that doesn't work, let's GIVE runs & players. What's next? You have to hit opposite. You only get one strike. I better stop giving ideas.

So Stick...The rules are fine...I get why the Dave Dowells of the world have to implement these new rules with ALL the different levels, but, taking runs or players ARE OPTIONAL! And IMHO...shouldn't be taken by PLUS players of ANY level. All the other home run & runs per innings limitations, should be enough PLUS against PLUS.

I know I went long here, it wasn't my intension...it just came spewing out

Hey Stick...of course it was a 55 Major Plus against a bumped 50 Major Plus...I'm not suggesting they cheated...My question is more about pride. Our 55 Major plus plays against 40 Major Plus and take nothing. When you win it means something! So my question to you was, do your OKI boys take players?

Hey Stick...I want your take on what happened in Lacey Wahington last weekend. We played against a "Premier" 55 major "PLUS" team ...and they took an extra player! Would you boys ever do that? Aren't all these giving players and runs for the "NON" PLUS teams?

With the home run rule changes, having a few strategic placement guys might not be such a bad thing.

My grandpa Wakefield ( my moms dad). We have 8 mm film of me, at about 3 years old, switch hitting, a ball hanging from a rope, from a close line...for hours! He was awesome!

Secondly, when I was 9 or 10 my mom played fast pitch softball with Jim McGlothln''s wife ( Jim was American League strikeout leader in 1968 with the Angels) families close to this day. He was traded to "The Big Red Machine". We went on vacation for a week in Cincinatti and Jim would take me in the club house. I met Joe Morgan, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Dave Concepcion, Geoge Foster to name my favorites.

After that...I knew what I wanted to be. But...wife got pregnant, hurt the ole back, and frickin Trammel & Whitaker never got hurt and the dream was shattered...LOL!

Is this a bad time to say I will go to the highest bidder...Don't tell anti-stein.

Resume...5 man middle guy, lead off hitter, chemistry guru and not against playing for a pick-up team.

I'm just trying to make everyone happy...lol!

Forgot how much fun this was...lol!

Webbie25...Your last four sentences are spot on! WELL DONE!

As far as winding down and being less competitive and want to play for fun...
Not fair to your teammates unless ALL are are the same page. I don't see MTC on that page. That's what Rec ball is for. Challenging yourself to be the best you can be and play the best teams you can play, make victory even SWEETER!

FUN is working hard, FUN is earning it, FUN is coming together as a TEAM...

Winning is a "bi product" of the upper sentence.

Your team is only as strong as your weakest link!

Wow! Bballer3, your first post! And what a terrific first post it is! Welcome, Your only a month behind me...LOL

What a great frickin question!

I'll tell you what, there is a TREMENDOUS amount of talent at the 55 Major+! Don't know ALL the 50 major players. I think it would be a helluva battle!

Well, I'm goin with 55 Major+...LOL!

Crusher 23 and 16 wood-- Nice posts! Nice summary!

Jimperry 19--I piggy back that crushers last paragraph was hysterical. Lmao! Also, thanks for your reply about understanding how the people slandered are taking it a little more personally and rightfully so. No harm no foul...NEVER took it as a shot at us! All good!

These conversations/rants/opinions/ETC have been going on for decades and will go on for decades more. You CAN'T make everyone happy all the time, every time UNFORTUNATELY! Dave and Fran have a tough job and are doing a great job! Apply for the job if you think you can do better.

My advice...Yes, always be aware of the rules and protecting the integrity of the game! BUT, if that is your main focus and it MENTALLY distracts you from batting practice and ANYTHING else that helps you from getting better ON THE FIELD...Its on YOU!
