May 4, 2026 Bob21	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: This is a new one!!! Dowell you never cease to amaze me! Schedule slippage it was! Time was 30 minutes over (but only the championship game remaining). Berger, thanks for the reply. Please educate that ump! He actually did a decent job other than this thing. It wasn't worth bringing up to the tournament guys down at the other fields (field 2 is the remote one on the hill). The other untold part of this was the ump asking if KC would flip flop during the middle of their 7th inning open rally after they got up by 10!!!
May 3, 2026 Bob21	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: This is a new one!!! Wes Weddle tourney today in Overland Park, KS. We’re waiting to play the winner. Field 2. It’s a fi ld away from the main 4-plex where the tourney “director” was. Stl Shockers v KC Evolution. Top of 7th. Visiting Team (KC) leads 24-18 beginning the inning. They have a great open inning. Score is 37-14. Guy doubles in a run. Now 38-18. 2 outs/ runner on 2nd now. Umpire stops the game and says “you’re up 20, open inning over for you. The home team will now bat and if they catch up or go ahead we’ll then resume your at bat with the runner on 2nd with 2 outs.” Everyone puzzled. We ask from the stands, “what rule is that caise it isn’t a SSUSA rule. Is that some local league rule and you’re mistaken”. Umpire obviously defensive and says “it’s in Section 5.” (It’s not). Home team actually makes it interesting by scoring 10 in the bottom of the open. No harm no foul right? It’s just frustrating umpires (with SSUSA shirts on) don’t know the basic rule. If I’m wrong I’ll gladly eat crow but this was pretty out there.
March 11, 2026 Bob21	Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Midwest Championships I never question Midwestern weather. Never a doubt, right SSUSA?? Now the forecast for KCK next week is better than Phoenix! Highs Friday March 20 expected to hit 80. 77 on Saturday and 81 on Sunday. Low temps are expected in the low 50's. Still think it was a crazy decision to schedule this early in the year but looks like it will work out better than anyone expected. Yes, we're playing.
Feb. 26, 2026 Bob21	Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Midwest Championships This tournament is going to be a crap-shoot on the weather. We've been snowed out at the old CowTown tournies over the years as well as had temps in the 70s, and those dates were in April. Looking at the long-range forecast for KC, AccuWeather projects highs on the 3 days (March 20-22) of 61, 56, and 48, with lows of 35, 31, and 30. We all know SSUSA doesn't cancel anything based on forecasts. Can't blame them. Last week in Omaha we had 74 degree weather on Tuesday and then 8" of snow on Thursday. Gonna be tough sledding for those 0800 games. How do you hit without breaking your bat when temps are in the 30's? Still, the question begs of how did this tournament get scheduled so early? One of the National Directors is from Kansas City. Wonder if she's a snowbird and doesn't live in KC in March? I understand access to the complex is tough due to all the youth tournaments, so this was probably the only date with a discount price they could get. We'll show up, bundle up, and play. Hope there is a good supply of Ben Gay on hand. But for 2027, please move this to at least April...
April 18, 2024 Bob21	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: The new ball We played in Phoenix in November. Other team's ball dirty as hell. Part of their "strategy" Was easily countered by having our pitcher spit on the ball and wipe it fairly clean on his pants. Obviously not the solution but it worked for us.

On a side note, never having played in St George, what an absolute great location and tournament. One of the best run tournaments we've been in. The Canyons are probably the best natural grass fields we've ever played on.

I'm certain the teams from Kansas City (and St Louis) will attend since it's in their backyard and Midwest players have been asking for this to be moved (back) to Kansas City for several years. Several Scrap Iron teams also make appearances in KC. I'd expect the Iowa Demon teams would also be there. I think we'd all agree later in the Spring or Summer would be ideal but it is what it is...
Nov. 28, 2023 Bob21	Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Midwest Championships Re: Who's going: I'd say most of the Omaha teams will go (probably a 50AAA, 50M, 55AAA, 60 AA and 60M, 65,s and 70s). We usually went to the Cow Town in KC, which is always a crapshoot on weather. It's been 70 and it's been snowed out. Backing this up two weeks in April isn't perfect, but should be ok. I understand a brand new complex with turf near the Legends in KCK. Even if it's in April, it beats the dumps we played at in Rogers and St. Louis.
April 2, 2023 Bob21	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: nicest softball complexes I second the fields in Aurora. All three complexes are grade A. Fences are about 320 due to the thin air. Balls still go out. The entire complex (soccer fields, etc) is gorgeous. Even the 14 mph speed limit captures your attention. Not so much of a great area as you drive wet into Aurora however.

Jan. 23, 2022 Bob21	Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Move Midwest Championship to St. Louis Omaha would be the definition of Midwest. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are enough decent fields here to handle this tourney. It would, however, be the perfect location.
June 11, 2021 Bob21	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Carrying bat to first base If I get a hit to drive in the 5th run of an inning, I usually carry my bat to first base and touch. Many players do the same. As Dave has said, it's a non-issue. I'm more concerned about the left-handed batter who bats in front of me that drops his bat halfway down the first base line when we're the home team and I have to fetch it!

June 8, 2020 Bob21	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Review of Missouri Open June 6-7 For our team, we played 6 games and all went 7 except for Game 1 (pool game). I don't think the new regulations were an issue on game time.
