Discussion: Northern Championships, no fans allowed in

The Lake Alliance complex will not be letting fans into the park. However in a magnanimous gesture, fans can sit outside the complex around the outfield fence. Pay for two nights in a hotel, gas and food so my wife can sit in leftfield....nice.

Discussion: Should I buy a new 'old' bat?

I would like to hear Alan on this. I don't want to end up like those guys bringing 5 bowling balls to the alleys, one for oily lanes, one for dry lanes, one with only a thumb hole, one offset weighted, and one with a semi-fingertip grip, only except instead of bowling balls it'd be bats!

Discussion: Should I buy a new 'old' bat?

What is the current lbs. of Compression on Senior Bats and what will the new lbs. of Compression be? Anyone know? Should I be buying a senior bat now to be grandfathered in because it will be hotter? ? I got this email from a friend today. I know it's USSSA and not SSUSA but just to be clear I'd like to know the lbs. of compression numbers for Senior Bats and what they will change to if they change at all. What about other associations? Same or change? The official post on this site says 'ESSENTIALLY' the same numbers. What does essentially in this case actually mean? How many different bats will we need if we play ASA/USA, ISSA, SPA, WSL or One Nation? USSSA is also going to the NTS style stamp.

USSSA SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL RULES
USSSA has decided to change their Slowpitch Bat Standards!

What does this mean? The new bats will have less pop than the current models with the 2012 stamp on them! Current models allow a lower compression of 220 lbs as opposed to the new standard of 240 lbs or higher. They are deadening their bats!

What about NSA? Seeing as NSA also allows the 1.20 BPF or 220 lb compression, will they be changing as well? No, NSA currently does not plan to adopt the 240 lb compression. They will continue to allow all 2012 stamped bats for the foreseeable future.

What about Other Associations? GSL, WSL & ISA All plan to stick with the Current 1.20 BPF or 220 lb Compression Bats.

ONLY USSSA IS CHANGING THEIR BAT STANDARD

DATE USSSA TIMELINE
Sep 1, 2019 New USSSA Bat Stamp: USSSA is transitioning their bat testing to a new facility, NTS Chesapeake.

June 1, 2020 New USSSA Bats Launch: USSSA Bats that meet the New Standard will begin their initial retail Launch
JAN 1, 2021 Stopping Use of Current USSSA Stamp: No Bats can have the current 2012 USSSA Thumbprint put on them after this date.

JAN 1, 2023 New USSSA Bats REQUIRED: USSSA Bats that meet the New Standard of 240 lbs and tested by NTS will be required for play. The current 2012 Stamp bats will no longer be accepted on the Slowpitch field of play!

Discussion: Batter pops up, doesn't run; defense lets ball drop to get a double play. Legal?

Good points Benji, There shouldn't be any rule that says a fielder must catch a ball rather than play it on the hop..... If the defense picks up on a batter/runner not, well, running, then more power to them. The rule book shouldn't compel a catch just the same as it wouldn't compel someone to hit a homerun. Offense/Defense. Kind of like a 'I think I play this ball on the hop (my choice) or I think I'll try for a single instead of a homerun' (my choice) scenario.

In other earth shattering news it was reported that Madison Square garden was shutdown as one of the reported dogs at the Westminster show tested positive for flea antibodies! Further testing revealed that the dog in question actually had ear mite antibodies. :-)

Omar, a very prophetic post on your part, another 'shut down for a few months' brings us up to the election. Many say that was the plan all along. More testing equals more cases so it's no surprise that the death rates have now dropped for the 12th straight month. IMOP: we are seeing the feared 2nd wave right now which is much weaker. Playing ball is what we should be doing be it sanctioned or getting together informally. It's amazing the hoops the governments are making the organizations jump through just to hit a ball with a stick, especially when inherently, the participants are spaced yards, not feet from each other.

Discussion: Just my Opinion

Capt., around here we have drugged drivers (both legal and illegal), fly by night driving schools, distracted drivers, foreigners who can't read the traffic signs, ragers who don't like bikes taking up 'their' road, drunk drivers, speeders, illegals driving, and impatient drivers, watch yourself out on the roads; Your chances of being struck by a vehicle are probably higher than getting the virus. The same goes for mountain/trail biking and the unforeseen hazards involved with that. To use a phrase that's already overused these days, stay safe.

Understood to a point. But as far as political goes, there is nothing that is supposed to be as apolitical in their duties as SCOTUS.

My thought is that aside from certain posts I find offensive but say nothing about....well never mind. Suffice it to say I don't believe as senior citizens and we have lived through and saw 60+ years of death, epidemics, plagues, manmade and natural disasters, riots, wars and destruction, but a sentence or two on a forum board can offend us. To me THAT is what's political . . . that said, as you say, it's your board, do as you wish with this whole thread.

My bad. I wasn't aware that facts posted regarding decisions of our country's highest court posted under the 'General Discussion' Topic tab and directed at my senior softball brethren in Oklahoma violated the sanctity of the forum. Heck, even one of our bigger associations (SPA) is based in Oklahoma (Mustang, OK) My apologies to all the offended party's.

We also purchased vehicle insurance, so far because of this bogus virus scare they have sent us two checks due to lack of driving.
It's one thing to voluntarily choose not to engage in an activity you paid for (kinda like most guys with gym memberships). It's another thing if the gym takes your money and doesn't deliver a service.
That said, I have a five year SSUSA card, even now having played pre-virus, I feel I've got good use out of it and personally I don't want any money back.

Discussion: Restarting with Pandemic Measures

We started up Monday of this week. We are doing our best to stay apart, no one's perfect. The catcher is wearing a mask, a social gesture at best, umpire is wearing one, it improves his looks! Some bat sharing, some hand sanitizing, haven't noticed if the balls going foul are being treated upon reentry. We wave or tip the hat at the end of a game Most of the guys are either fist bumping some with gloves on or bumping elbows with teammates to compliment good plays or good hits.. Everyone is bringing their own hydration source. (If you bring bottled water put your name on it or keep it in your bag to avoid confusion) The usual porta-johns are not in place but the building restrooms are open. The women are bringing sanitizer into the building with them and the guys are hitting the trees. Admittedly, it's not as bad as I envisioned, are we strictly adhering to all the rules, no but we are trying. We all go to our sponsors pub for lunch after the game and they open up early for us so spacing out in the room is no problem but we do get close from time to time. Hope this helps. Bottom line, enjoy the game and don't dwell on the negative and you'll still have some fun.

Discussion: Which bat to buy?

I still compare every bat I swing to the MIKEN line of bats. I believe the MIKEN bats are the only ones still made in the US and NOT in China. Personally at this time, since China has basically ruined our summer with their virus, why support them by buying their products when American produced products of the same or better quality (MIKEN) are available.....

That is fantastic but not unexpected. I suspect the rest of the tournaments we are 'allowed' to play will have similar results. Eyes on the prize fellas! Soon we may be able to just play without all the hoops we have to jump through. Dare to dream!

DEJ13-Not sure if I agree with you. As much as the whole mask thing I consider folly, if they are requiring it, well bats and gloves are required to play and we do provide our own. BUT at 10 bucks a crack for a logo mask I can't help but feel there is some gouging going on here. Cotton masks at best filter at 69%. Thin ones, I don't know about the effectiveness. I wonder if SSUSA isn't legally stepping in it a little by putting their logo on these or will they come with an effectiveness disclaimer?

Just curious..."On average, symptoms showed up in the newly infected person about 5 days after contact. Rarely, symptoms appeared as soon as 2 days after exposure. Most people with symptoms had them by day 12 ..."

Well I guess it later enough, anyone report any serious issues?
