Discussion: Older age groups playing younger age groups?

This is a simple yes or no question. Can a team play down in age group in a qualifier? It sounds like you want to see who the team is and then determine if you will allow them to play. It’s irrelevant now as my team isn’t going to participate.

Discussion: Older age groups playing younger age groups?

So the answer is “no” my 50 major team cannot play in the 40 AAA bracket. My team cannot wait 3 weeks before a tournament to plan a travel tournament. This is the reason I brought this up. My team doesn’t have a enough guys to play the following weekend in the 50’s, so we wanted to play in the 40’s. Last year I was personally told by Terry Hennessy that a team can always play down in age anytime they want to but clearly this isn’t true. Can SSUSA please discuss this and make an official announcement letting teams know that you cannot play down if you want to. And please don’t respond with “teams can play down as long as it’s approved at the entry deadline”. That just doesn’t work for teams that need to plan travel arrangements.

So my 50 Major team can play in the 40AAA bracket of the 40’s Spring World Championship 3/16-3/17 in Arizona?

Discussion: Older age groups playing younger age groups?

Is SSUSA going to allow older age groups to play younger age groups in qualifying tournaments this upcoming year? For example 50 Major playing in a 40 AAA bracket or 50 Major + playing in a 40 Major bracket. There was some confusion over this last year. I also don’t see any discussion about this in minutes from the SSUSA meeting.

Discussion: 50 Major Plus bracket issue

It's a disservice to bring back 8 off the 14 teams to the final day. 6 of the 8 teams would have to play 6 games to win it. That's basically impossible at this level. I know, the easy solution is just don't lose. There should have been another round of games for everyone Friday night. That would bring back 6 teams and possibly let someone in the losers bracket have a chance of coming back. I know SSUSA has a field restriction at our complex and can't have games after
3:00ish, but that shouldn't be our problem. Most of us at the Major Plus level are still super competitive and love playing at the highest level. Most of us could care less if where we play. It doesn't need to be in Vegas. I know our 14 out of 129 teams in the 50's don't really mean much, but I wish it did. Anyway, can't wait to compete in this tourney.

What are the rules or penalties for forfeiting your seeding games in a qualifier?

They will use an equalizer for this. If you play a 50 major you will get a 5 run spot. If you play a 50 major plus you will get a 5 run spot plus an extra fielder. It’s the only way to give the higher rated teams a tourney to play in.

Discussion: Bumped up teams

Nice try Dave. SSUSA is the only one that should be embarrassed. I’m pretty sure my team didn’t decline to participate. Are you telling me that you don’t know that I play on the team that was wrongfully bumped?

Discussion: Bumped up teams

Wow! That's pathetic. Why would you allow a team that didn't earn anything play in that game? Granted they played all day to get to the championship which was an accomplishment, but the team they lost to was also Major when the game was played.

Discussion: Should a team get to compete?

If a team has followed the rules, had their roster approved and played in a qualifying tournament, SSUSA should never bump a team after Western or Eastern nationals. Teams pay way to much money to travel to this tourney with the hopes of winning and having the chance to play the other champion with the 1 seed on the line. SSUSA should be embarrassed that they have done this to several teams this year. They need to have the team ratings set before this tourney is played period. SSUSA needs to do better. Before anyone from SSUSA chimes in on this, just know that no matter what you may say to try and validate what you have done, “you’re wrong”.

Discussion: 40's HR's @ BLD?

Any chance of playing wall ball this week @ BLD. 2 ways to view it. Any fair ball over the fence that comes back in play is live. Any fair ball over the fence that doesn't come back into play is a HR. Pretty simple. Before you just say no, can we at least ask the Manager's at the meeting. If any Manager doesn't want it, then it's a no. I just think most would prefer it.

Discussion: 40s Worlds

Why 3 weeks later? I live in the NW and decided to bring my wife and daughter this year to enjoy some sunny Vegas weather before we get our typical rainy season. I looked up the ave. Vegas temps in Oct. and saw that it was 85. Perfect, (so I thought). Come to find out that Oct. is known for rapid decrease in temp. as the month goes on. The temps. are usually in the low 70's by the end of the month. I bought 2 extra plane tickets, booked a nice hotel only to find out last week that the pool closes Oct. 16th for the season. I purchased non-refundable rooms, cause I new I was going and that was the best rate. Pretty disappointed to say the least. Also being in the NW are last available Tourny to play in is next weekend. We will have to go about 6 weeks without playing together before we go to Vegas. I know we're grown men and we'll be fine, but my wife's unhappy and that sucks for me.
