Roger, would be an excellent pick up. Skilled hitter with great speed.
I would recommend him highly.

Discussion: Hitting Clinic in Denver area

I'm trying to set up a clinic in the Denver area and I need some help with some email contacts especially with the Scrap Iron group. If anyone has a mailing list I would appreciate if you would let me send out a flyer describing the clinic. Thanks for your help.

I would really like to see a committee formed (preferrable made up of Major Plus and Major players) for the December meeting that would at least start discussing options to try and resolve this issue, which is growing and affecting a lot of teams at different levels. This will not be an easy answer and may take a while to come up with legitmate options.
Just my thoughts!!

It was a great decision to put such a who's who of Senior softball on the committee. I understand nothing was really accomplished but like I stated it's not going to be an easy solution. Almost all approaches have drawbacks! To arrive at answer and please everyone included Senior Softball will be all most impossible. But still the problem exists and maybe even more so than before. I believe we have to make some attempt to come up with a plan that will at least help?
Just my thoughts!

This is a serious issue for all levels of teams. I understand frustrations from Walt and I agree it's not easy playing a team that has been winning almost all of there games. The issue goes even farther for other level of teams and includes SSUSA (which is put in an almost impossible position.) Yes, it is even difficult for the Timberworks team.
Doak was pointing this out and not looking for sympathy for this Major Plus team. What he was looking for was awareness, action or hoping to start a process to resolve this frustating problem for all levels and all teams. No easy answers for anyone! It's not fun to be beaten on a regular basis and it really is not fun to be on the other side despite what players may think. You play Major Plus because you want to play the best competition not to beat up on teams forced to play you. You go to tournaments for a chance to compete not to be dominated by another team on a consistent basis.
Resolution is going to take some work but something does need to be done for all parties to be somewhat satisfied.

Discussion: Bobby Saenz

I'm really at a loss for words on hearing this news. Bobby was a class act and a great ballplayer. True competitor but once the game was over an even better friend! Bobby was one of the real reason why Senior Softball is so important to many of us. Chance to see fellow players and teammates even if it's only couple of times a year. You will be missed for so many reasons. Condolences to his family, friends, teammates and the rest of us who had the pleasure to play against such an exceptional quite person!

Discussion: Ray Ray has passed

I was fortunate to get one last chance to work with Ray Ray at the Suncoast Hitting Camp held in Florida in March. He was doing well and hitting well, great spirits, and a wonderful attitude (as always!)
Fighter and competitive player that exceeded all expectations time after time!
You will be missed, Big Guy!

Discussion: Proper senior bat weight as we age

You really need to swing different bats weights and compare them, trying to hit with power, line drives even opposite field. Keep track of how you hit and make a decision. Alan mentioned lots of factors and the only true way to make a correct decision is hitting with different weights, balance-end load, and even one-piece and two-piece bats.
Going to camps or even some of the clinics offering different bats to swing are great ways to accomplish this. Good Luck!

Discussion: WINTER WORLD'S • 65/70-Platinum Update

My name is Steven Imlay and I play for Omen 70’s. We just played in the Winter Worlds in the 65 Major division. We went 4-3 finished 3rd. Here are my thoughts on last week’s tournament.
First, I want to congratulate an excellent team the Scorpions. You all beat us twice and deserved both wins. You played well offensively, defensively, pitched well, clutch hits and a great group of players. Very proud you are representing Arizona in this very great division of Senior Softball. You will do well this year.
We did not play a bad team in the tournament and any of the teams we played could have gotten hot and beaten us. Parity is a great thing and you all are lucky to have that in your division. We played an outstanding R&R team which we had to play our best game of the tournament to beat these guys. Very impressive team that really hits the ball and plays great defense. You all will definitely win your share of tournaments this year. Great group of guys!! Scrap Iron is a team that does everything well and has lots of power and will be a force to deal with in the future tournaments. Old School and Animals played well and we were fortunate to get hot at the right times against these team. Old School will only get better as the year goes on and I understand the Animals may move up to 70’s - good luck you will do very well if you do.
My comment is on that you have a very competitive division and you all will get your opportunity to get hot and win a tournament. We are group of 70 and above players that are trying to compete against you all. I believe we did that and are very happy with the way we finished. Don’t get me wrong we like to win and we will play to win if we play in future 65 Major tournaments. We need the 11th player to compete with you all. If SSUSA decides to change the rule we will compete with the new rule as well. Big difference (as in all divisions as you move up) one day you all will understand.
I congratulate SSUSA for sticking with a rule that has been in place for at least 23 years. The results prove that it is a good and fair rule. Dave, I feel it’s been unfair to call you out on this process especially when the results prove you to be correct.
We do not go to tournaments to beat up on teams, no fun for either teams and you as a team don’t get better. We would prefer to go and finish 4-3 and play against very good competition. That is the bottom line in Senior Softball play against great guys and compete to win the tournament. Our goal is to improve and to see where we need to improve. I believe we did that this last weekend and hopefully we helped other teams to do the same.
I guarantee you, next time we play, we will do everything we can within the rules to beat you. However, if you beat us, we will congratulate you and figure out how we can get better. This is the Omen and Otis way.
Great tournament well ran with fantastic competition. Again, congratulations on all the team we played very competitive and class acts.
Look forward to playing you again or watching you as you go through this year to the Worlds which really is the most important tournament of the year!
You are with in your rights to disagree but these are my thoughts.
