| Oct. 15, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Suspensions Why not? I've talked to a few 40's that LOVE our game and gave up that other game for good, no regrets! The teams in our area have settled down considerably since they started. They support our senior tournaments and are not causing any problems. Loose Cannon was a new 40's team this year. They were getting pummeled in Major, appealed and moved down, and won in Vegas. With the 40's added and growing, and the behavior addressed, Senior Softball is going to thrive in every way. ShaneV |
| Oct. 14, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Suspensions Sad that this kind of behavior continues. As an umpire, player, manager and league and tournament director I am disappointed to see this kind of behavior and 100% behind Senior Softball-USA in the swift action taken. Senior Softball will not tolerate this. ShaneV |
| Oct. 8, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 40"s and 50's Results ? From another thread: Cruzer951: 50 AAA 1st. Oh My 2nd. Tucson Bandits 3rd. Sluggers 4th. Kamikaze Ken and I umpired Oh My beating Kamikaze in the 10:30am Sunday game. Great run through the losers bracket for OH MY. I think that was their 10th game with 3 to go? ShaneV |

| Sept. 18, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Flip Flop Rule Have not heard an explicit answer to your question but would say no. No provision in the rule to revert to the original Home/Visitor if the game is tied after completion of the (first) open inning. Have heard SSUSA leadership say there can be only one flip-flop in a game. That too would imply a no to your question. ShaneV |
| Sept. 17, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Growth of the 40 division I've been told there is a gradual but significant shift in the 40's thinking up here in the NW. The 5 teams now playing in our area (3 Major, 2 AAA) and attending local SSUSA events are having a great time and they're spreading the word. I expect we could have 10 teams from the NW by 2015. If that trend spreads throughout the country there could be 90 teams at Worlds in a couple years! So any of you 40's who frequent the message board, what do you really like about SSUSA, beyond the obvious 5GG and bat/ball combination? Also, what can we do to attract the average 40's players? | Sept. 11, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Confused about players joining teams for the Worlds mad dog's got it right. The "roster considerations" are out there for all of us to read and understand, but if you don't managage a team and you've never found your team in this situation, of course why would you know this. I've been close to this situation a few times and had those conversations with SSUSA, until I was able to clearly understand what's allowed. And of course each case may be different and SSUSA always has some discretion. If you want to add in a questionable situation, they'll always let you enter, maybe at the next higher class! ShaneV |
| Sept. 10, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Desert Breeze Park I can understand why they would do that, in that desert climate. Here in rainy Western Washington the perfect combination is artificial infield and natural outfield. I much prefer that combination. I've only played artificial outfield once, in Medford OR a few years ago, and I can't say I liked it. Hot on the feet and the ball runs like it's got legs!!! Good news is it's the same for both teams, that's universal for all temps and conditions. ShaneV |
| Sept. 9, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Desert Breeze Park Are the fields at Desert Breeze Park in Las Vegas all artificial? Looks like it on the satellite view, no brown patches, sprinkler circles. And if so, I bet it plays hot when it's in the 90's! ShaneV |
