Discussion: Individual Team Member has a Covid19 Positive Test Result

Shows the insanity of this and lack of knowledge.

The test is NOT a COVID-19 test (which is the disease).

The test shows the presence of the virus SARS-CoV-2. Dependent on how many Cycle threshold are used, technically you could pick up anything on anyone.

The test is fantastic and NOT flawed, it's use is and it was not ever intended as a diagnostic tool to determine a disease.

The WHO admitted in January of this year:

"WHO reminds IVD users that disease prevalence alters the predictive value of test results; as disease prevalence decreases, the risk of false positive increases (2). This means that the probability that a person who has a positive result (SARS-CoV-2 detected) is truly infected with SARS-CoV-2 decreases as prevalence decreases, irrespective of the claimed specificity." https://www.who.int/news/item/20-01-2021-who-information-notice-for-ivd-users-2020-05

In other words a positive test result does NOT mean a person is infected, is sick, will be sick or is infectious in any way.

People have to investigate and understand what the test is and not take what they have been told.IF a person tests positive, it is important that a Doctor diagnose them as infected before ANY panic.

In fact if the CT is above 26 or so, the probability is the person is no risk and will never be sick.(In the USA we use 40 CT which is almost 1 trillion time what is in your body)

Discussion: Catchers will wear a mask

I've never seen a batter in the batters box in slow pitch softball for 10-15 minutes in one at bat.

The masks that people wear, when they get wet are USELESS. Keep in mind we are doing a physical activity.

So a catcher now only has a mask on for 5 minutes. You must have some really short innings/games where you play. Its not BS when people have overheated and DIED from wearing masks because they restrict your breathing(Duh). You require someone to wear one and they die, that liability cannot be signed away.

Dont be condescending with your "its to protect others" BS. Most catchers are never any nearer than 1M (The WHO's recommendation) and even our CDC says "masks IF you cant maintain SD"(6f). Not masks and SD. The COVID viral size is smaller than the masker ability to filter it in any meaningful way.

It is even more galling IF an organization gives in to ridiculous ideas to give in to bureaucrats who have ZERO idea of the facts.

If a city or county said everyone had to be clean shaven or they couldn't play. Want to go along with that?

We all lived through a virus situation that was substantially worse than this,no one was in a panic. Some of us through 2 situations. Hong Kong Virus in the late 1960's and in the 1950's the Asian Virus. Both killed 2 to 4 times more people than this.

LOL ..and note to SSUSA staff at the end.

You lost all credibility at "Every doctor and scientist says it does" .... Even Birx said "IF you cant social distance" and SD is 6 feet apart in the USA (but less in many other countries. Interesting, I didnt know science or a virus changed based on the language spoken) Also the virus does not jump from person to person and requires close contact for a prolonged period of time (10-15 minute)

Muzzles, face diapers etc have NOT been used by many anesthesiologists in surgery for a number of years. In fact it has been questioned over the last many years, if masks are really even needed by medical professionals.

Then came the fear mongers. People who don't even understand that to have ANY effect of filtering, they must be worn correctly. That the fabric ones are for show and can actually cause problems and that even surgical masks offer little help. When the masks becomes wet (sweating maybe could cause that?)) the are uselessa and harmful.

People who don't know what viral load means or don't realize that , as one country recently said "its no worse than the common cold (there are 4 coronaviruses that circulate the globe each year and cause a version of the cold) "or the FLU" (which kills 10s of thousands each year. If we lose another 60,000 people in the USA this will be as bad as the Hong Kong virus int he late 1960's. remember wearing masks to school, lockups etc? ... nah ... we had Woodstock and riots and barely noticed)

There is nothing worse than people that THINK they know what they are talking about..... Well maybe there is.... People who try to make others do things because of their own irrational fear. (BTW I have connections to Fauci and am in contact with have worked in the same field with him at NIH and they talk almost weekly)

What about a person has already had COVIE and recovered.(and dont try the outdated antibodies may not protect)That person cannot infect anyone else yet YOU want them to wear a mask? (BTW that person is me, I had it after coming back from Europe in mid-late February. Yes I have been tested and, like 85-95% of the people, it was a bad flu ...)

And to the SSUSA staff : The lawsuit is going to be interesting when you get nailed for some older player, in 90 degree heat who dies because of the mask. (China removed wearing masks for physical activity after a student died because of consequences of it in PE class.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8283965/Two-Chinese-boys-drop-dead-run-PE-lessons-wearing-face-masks.html)

Some people can only play catcher. Bad knees, older, bad shoulder a million reasons. but YOU , in your infinite wisdom are mandating they wear a mask or not play?

Exercise. heat and reducing oxygen intake are NOT a good combination. And YOU, SSUSA, are requiring that combination. I hope the liability insurance is paid up.

(As additional info, a virus is not alive. It is a chemical compound that needs a host to replicate and that is its only "goal". It does NOT want to kill its host which is why viruses mutate over time to become less dangerous. This has already mutated substantially. Case count is not an issue. Do we focus on how many people get a cold each year? The issue is ability to treat (remember flatten the curve) and deaths. )

SKIPPED OVER THE IMPORTANT PHRASES :

"especially in large crowds"

"crowds of people together"

Softball fields are not crowded places like subways.

And,of course, "the SCIENCE" on masks has changed in the last several months ... Try wearing an N95 in the heat of summer. The others become almost useless once they become damp. (Unless you pay in an air conditioned dome, I would guess it gets hot)

Or maybe that WHO suggest 1 meter for SD, (most of europe is 1 1.5 meters) yet we came up with 6 feet... want the science? ENgland went 2 meters because they didnt believe people would stay 1 meter apart

If you want to stay up on COVID read about things like little or no asymptomatic spread and the CDC statement that the virus doe NOT spread easily from contaminated surfaces.

Or just stay home and let the rest of us play

Dan : One of the problems in this is the CDC says something and gives published guidance to sports organization and recreational group AND THEN, later, updates in press releases negating their original guidance.

It doesnt seem they send that updated info to the organizations.

In many ways , one hand at the CDC doesnt know what the other is doing. You are correct that in the last several days they have said that touching objects does not seem to be a way to transfer the virus.

Today Birx, after saying the only need for a mask is in situations where you cant social distance, said that people should use their own marked tennis balls when they play tennis!!! which is different than what the CDC just released.

It seems the specifics are what are screwed up and not updated

Some organizations are going to have to stay on top of this continually changing guidance and see that it is getting more and more lenient and adjust accordingly

Just read this : " New York's Nassau County health officials just days ago. It was all about proper handling of balls to stay safe amid coronavirus. "

"You can kick their balls, but you can't touch them," Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced with a serious urgency.

"To avoid confusion between whose balls are whose you can use a marker like a sharpie to put an 'X'... to put someone's initials on them," she added.

So to review: "if you’re playing tennis against someone who lives in the same house as you, treat their balls like your own... But if you’re playing against someone who lives elsewhere or you’re on a court next to other people not living with you, remember these tips"

Kick their balls
To avoid confusion, mark your balls with an “X” or write your name on your balls.
IMPORTANTLY!: Don’t touch their balls with your hands.

This from a state where 66% of the new hospitalizations are from people who stayed home, This means they caught the virus from people in their own household.

How about convincing government officials that they have overreacted ... if people are afraid to play, dont play .... to give in to the insanity is insanity itself.

So now the government tell the public? THEY have caused the insanity ... the disease exists, there are studies it is sprad by close continual (not casual) contact. (AND that doesn't mean 6 minutes it means prolonged)

THIS IS INSANITY ON A HUGE SCALE ... It needs to be an additional chapter of Extraordinary Polpular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds

The 1968 to 1969 flu season ... not two years ...

Birx said recently that she believes there is an OVERCOUNT by the CDC of at least 25%.

And yes,IMO and in the opinion of numerous immulnologists I know and have talked to, the beahvior of this virus is very similar ... BTW I had it in late January after a trip overseas in early mid Januaryand it was like very bad flu.

Actually this has spread since at least January ad probably before ... so its more like 5 months. We have ny been locked down for 2.

But if you are afraid, stay inside. That is YOUR choice. That is called freedom of choice

You will love this insanity .... we were told we could not throw the ball to each other and play catch because we were both touching the same ball

I pointed out that we were allowed to play tennis and would be hitting the same balls, picking them up and tossing them with our hand to serve.

The response "Thats different" ...I then asked if it was ok for us to toss green fuzzy balls back and forth and was told no.

We went to the dog park and threw for a while, we had to bark every once in a while but it worked.

BTW OZ if you havent seen this article in Das Bild (which is Europes best selling newspaper) I think you will like it :

Going out with a buddy to throw the ball and loosen up our arms at the field today ..... supposedly we are not locked down in Palm Beach County as of 12:01 today.

We will see ... going to breakfast afterwards and make dinner plan ... We need to help the businesses come back and help lead and force the world out of this PANICdemic.

Everything can be the same, we just have to realize that it will take effort to try to educate others that this was probably a massive overreaction.

Almost all of us lived through 1968-69 when 100,000 plus people died in the USA and between 1 and 2 million worldwide of the Hong Kong Flu. Most were above the age of 65. We were not afraid of that and didn't shut the word down. Social media etc helped fan the flames of this. That H3N2 virus continues to circle the world each year.

As Roosevelt said " The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

“I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.”

Personal responsibility, if a person is afraid, Dont play. If a person is in an at risk group, dont play.

To fight the Hong Kong Flu, as we all remember, we shut down the world in 1968-1969. It was the only way to keep millions from dying *(actually a million did die around the word)

It was (is) extremely contagious and the death toll was primarily from the age group above 65. There were 100,000 people that dies then (non padded numbers).

This virus strand (H3N2) still circles the world every year and there is no totally preventative vaccine.

Discussion: Corona Virus (COVID-19) • Part II

Seems the people who called for 2.2 million deaths in the USA and 500,000 in the UK have lowered their estimates in the UK by a factor of 25. !!!

That would mean istead of 2.2 million in the USA, it might be 80,000, essentially a bad flu season. The new report states this will peak in 2-3 weeks not 18 months. It also said that of the 20,000 projected deaths in the UK, over 1/2 of those it will kill would have died by the end of the year anyway because they were so old and sick.

Dr. Birx referred to models created by British experts indicating that up to 500,000 Brits could die from the virus. Now they have readjusted their number of dead to 20,000. That is a 25-fold drop. In those models, they estimated up to 2.2 million deaths in America, with over 60 million infected (20%). Dr. Birx indicated that the data (now substantial since 550,000 tests have been done) do not justify these fearsome numbers. She further indicated that there are no data to support frightening claims by Mayor Bill de Blasio that upto 50% of New Yorkers would be infected.
