| July 2, 2025 papa t | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SCORING RULE I have always felt that way as well. For some reason when the conversation comes up some managers disagree. Nobody ever comes up with an acceptable argument in my opinion. If you are lucky enough to get a scorer...it makes their job much easier. It also takes the pressure off them to decide what is an error or not. Also a sack fly in slow pitch softball...really?!? I think that over time...those on because of errors will show up with a lower on base percentage anyways. One of my buddies always says just "Be Better"! Something can be said for that mantra!! |
| May 20, 2025 papa t | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Equalizers Brian that is a good and interesting way to handle the 5 run spot. I have always thought the HR situation should be 1 up. If you are playing a team that hits a bunch of homers and your team can keep it in the park...that's the equalizer. If you want to keep up with them HR for HR then so be it. |
| May 19, 2025 papa t | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Equalizers We are always having to do this in our tourneys. The director likes to do this to give the teams a chance to play other teams instead of all the same teams in our division. One thing I have never understood or agree with is when you just give home team to them team giving up the equalizer. Just because they have to give up 5 runs shouldn't automatically give them the advantage to be home team. Just my.02...flip a coin please |
| May 16, 2025 papa t | Topic: Associations Discussion: AWS Senior Slow Pitch They will be there tomorrow and Sunday. I have a few buddies playin in it. |
| May 15, 2025 papa t | Topic: Associations Discussion: AWS Senior Slow Pitch It's NCS...they have a good following for the younger crowd. The 40's and 50's are usually full. The 55's are spotty and anything above that doesn't get too many teams. Prizes are pretty good if they fill up a division. |
| Sept. 18, 2024 papa t | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Player safety Not really player safety in my opinion but maybe a little sour grapes on this one. It was turning to dusk when we ended up getting our 3 outs and the umpire calls flip flop. We were up by 13 and didn't think anything of it. The team we were playing got 2 hits and then we got an out. By that time it was very difficult to see. Long story short they ended up scoring 19 runs on us during that open inning. I got back to the dugout and my buddy that was watching our game told me they were throwing in dirty balls so we couldn't see. All they had to do was put it up in the air and was almost impossible to see. Granted they still had to hit the ball...but that was pretty Bush in my opinion. It would have been nice to be able to turn down the flip flop...but I was told you can't do that. Anyways it was Saturday night and we were hoping to make it to Sunday but it didn't happen. Not that anything could have been done...but there has been other conversation about how quickly those balls get dirty and hard to see. Still had a good time at the tourney and will be back next year. |
| Aug. 8, 2024 papa t | Topic: Bats Discussion: Bat testing I haven't seen anything on this...so I am curious how the bat testing has been going? Perhaps some clarification as well. I read somewhere that any bat that doesn't pass the test will be sent back to the manufacturer for testing. Is that correct? I have 2 original Dudley Lightning balanced bats I use which are approx 10 or so years old. I personally have never broken a bat (everyone tells me it's because I don't swing hard enough)! But if they are that old...they may not pass the compression test. How many tourneys have the testers been used at? Do you have a % of the number of bats that have failed the testing? Have you found many that have been altered? Thx! |

| Nov. 21, 2017 papa t | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: The "ROCK SOFTBALL" Billy Mac...hope you heal 100%! Here's my 2 cents. I almost got hit as a runner at 3rd. One of my big guys tried to sneak one between me and the 3rd baseman(Marquize don't ever do that again please!!) Not sure how I was able to get out of the way...but somehow dodged a big bullet to the head. I'm actually shocked that more guys don't get hurt. Maybe just a testament to good players! We play in the 50's and it's crazy how hard and fast those balls come off the bats. I did notice tho as an outfielder that those balls don't travel as fast when we throw them. I don't know if it's the cushy cover or what...but it was weird thinking you had a guy dead on the bag and the ball took a little extra time getting there. Anyways...my 2 cents on the balls...and I will see you guys on the fields. |
| Nov. 9, 2017 papa t | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SSUSA thank you Vinny...even tho Mesquite is small...you are gonna like it better there. Not sure you can drink in St George past 9:00 in the evening. Just sayin there is a extremely large church group presence there! Congrats on doing well in Vegas. Now I will add to the Vegas part. I say that going to 4 days in Vegas makes it that much more difficult for us that are still working! Only way it works ok is if we get to play night games on Thursday. Most of us come in on Thursday anyways...but early games would force us to come in on Wednesday. I can see alot of guys not being able to do that. |
| Oct. 4, 2017 papa t | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Schedule for 40's World Vinny...I knew you had skills...I just didn't know that math was one of them. Hope you guys do well Kid! I will see you at one of the next local toureny's. Good Luck |

| Oct. 27, 2016 papa t | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Speed up rules I agree with Bob...I'm not sure it's broke. In my opinion...most of the games are done pretty well and don't have issues with slow play or wasting time. Every team can police themselves and if you have issues with the other team...bring it up to the blue. I would be curious if anyone has stats on playing 2 innings at once. It would definitely save time...but we have all played in games when you either go cold or hot between innings. If the team you are playing gets hot and you let them do 2 innings...you can go down quickly. On the other side...you can get hot and do the same. I guess I would be curious to see how those play out. |
