Enough Double Talk

Sept. 1, 2003 – Letters from readers

Regarding your article in the March Issue about the pitching box, the quote was made, that "The pitching box is one of the most exciting new ideas in softball today".

I understand it's about safety of the players with all the new high-tech bats, but how about adopting an old idea that will increase the safety of players, especially the pitchers.

Adopt the middleman, especially in the 60 and 65 old brackets. I feel that this one position helps deter the batters from trying to go up the middle thus giving the pitcher some protection, with no required purchase of new equipment.

I can not believe that I would see the day that the pitchers look more like hockey goalies than softball players, with the helmets and chest protectors.

If you want to talk safety, without banning bats and balls, then let's cut the double talk and adopt the middleman.
