Americans Tough on Pros Who Stray

May 1, 2000 – Senior Softball-USA

Americans come down hard on professional athletes who are charged with crimes, according to a recent national poll.

The Harris Sports Poll asked 10,000 respondents if professional sports leagues should suspend players charged with assault, solicitation and/or drug offenses.

The largest group - 39 percent - said the players should be suspended for a season.

But 34 percent said the leagues should ban professional players for life if they are charged with these offenses.
