Ways to Protect Yourself in This Season of Sickness

The best ways to boost your immune system this winter, according to doctors and health specialists, are:
- Get a flu shot
- Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. (Also include nuts, seeds and adequate protein).
- Keep your sugar intake way down.
- Restrict alcohol consumption.
- Drink about eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Take daily multi-vitamins.
- Get at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.
- Get enough restful sleep.
- Learn how to control stress. (Recommendations include brisk exercise, yoga or meditation).
- If you feel like you are coming down with something, start eating mostly fruits and vegetables, and get some rest.
