Equalizing Situation
Jan. 1, 2002 – Letters from readers
Recently I played in a local weekend tournament with my 65+ team. There were only two 60+ teams that showed up, so the tournament director scheduled the 65+ teams to play the 60+ teams so that they could get their guaranteed number of games.
As to be expected, the 60+ teams defeated all of the 65+ teams. Later I suggested to the tournament director that the 60+ teams should give the 65+ teams a 5-run handicap in the first inning to help balance the teams.
He thought it was great idea. I am hoping national executive staffs will take this idea under consideration because this situation happens fairly often in tournaments.
